What is Vedantu?

Vedantu is an Indian online tutoring company founded in 2014 by four IIT alumni — Vamsi Krishna, Pulkit Jain, Anand Prakash and Saurabh Saxena. It teaches live rather than through recorded video, which is the main thing separating it from most competitors: classes run to a timetable with a teacher present, and students can ask questions during the session.

The company reached unicorn status in September 2021 after a $100 million Series E led by ABC World Asia valued it at $1 billion. It covers CBSE, ICSE and state boards for Classes 3–12, runs separate JEE and NEET streams, and offers a younger-learner range (phonics, maths, coding, spoken English) for LKG to Class 8. One-to-one tutoring is sold separately from the group courses.

What real Vedantu reviews say

For these Vedantu reviews we looked at ratings across four independent platforms rather than relying on testimonials published by Vedantu itself. The picture is genuinely mixed, and the spread between sources matters more than any single number.

The Trustpilot situation, stated plainly

Vedantu’s Trustpilot page displays 324 reviews but no overall score. In its place Trustpilot shows the notice: “This company’s rating is unavailable due to a breach of our guidelines.” Trustpilot applies that notice for various reasons and does not publish the specific cause, so we are not going to speculate about what happened. What we will say is that a withheld score is a reason to weight the 396,000-rating Play Store figure more heavily than any Trustpilot number you may see quoted elsewhere.

What the Vedantu reviews star distribution shows

Of those 324 Trustpilot Vedantu reviews, 79% are 5-star and 13% are 1-star, with almost nothing in between. That U-shape is the most useful thing in the data. It says Vedantu works very well for one group of students and fails another group fairly badly — which means the question is not “is Vedantu good?” but “am I the kind of student it works for?” We answer that below.

What negative Vedantu reviews consistently raise

• Aggressive sales and renewal pressure. The most common complaint by some distance, and it appears across every platform we checked.
• Refund denials. Frequently cited, and — importantly — usually consistent with Vedantu’s published policy rather than a breach of it. See the refund section below.
• Support responsiveness. Slow or circular replies once a payment has been made.
• Personalisation not matching the pitch. Several reviewers describe being sold individual mentoring and receiving what one called “just another online class”.
• Cost. Even in positive reviews, price is the most common reservation. Verified users on SoftwareSuggest flag course prices as “on the higher side”.
• Video performance without a strong connection. A live-class platform is less forgiving of patchy mobile data than a recorded one.

Vedantu fees in 2026 — and what isn’t published

This is the section most Vedantu reviews skip, so we will be direct about it: Vedantu does not publish full course fees. The only prices visible publicly are starting hourly rates for one-to-one tutoring. Everything else requires submitting your details and speaking to a counsellor.

Rates verified on vedantu.com in September 2026 and described there as starting prices. Your quoted rate may be higher depending on tutor, subject and level.

Gated pricing is standard practice across Indian edtech, so this is not unique to Vedantu. But it has a practical consequence worth planning for: you cannot compare Vedantu against Physics Wallah or Unacademy on price without sitting through a sales call at each. Go into that call with a fixed budget decided in advance, ask for the total payable including taxes rather than the monthly instalment, and get the figure in writing by email before you pay.

Vedantu reviews and the refund policy — read this before you pay

Refund complaints are among the most common in Vedantu reviews, and in most cases the outcome matches the published policy. The problem is that few buyers read it first.

Vedantu’s own refund guidance lists several categories as non-refundable, including crash courses, Rank Booster, the doubt-solving app, one-to-one tuition for Grades 6–12, and its Superkids programme. Refunds apply mainly through the Vedantu Improvement Program, which attaches real conditions:

• Attendance of 75% of live classes in every subject
• Completion of 75% of assigned tests in every subject
• Claims made only within 7 days of the relevant exam results
• Refunds prorated by year on multi-year courses

Two practical points. First, a 75% attendance threshold across every subject is demanding over a full academic year — a stretch of illness or exam-season absence can void eligibility. Second, Vedantu’s published policy page still references an enrolment window from 2023, so the terms attached to any current offer may differ. Ask for the refund terms in writing, for your specific course, before paying. If a counsellor will not put them in an email, treat that as your answer.

Is Vedantu financially stable?

Unusual question for a course review, but a fair one when you are prepaying for two years of teaching. Vedantu’s FY25 filings show a company growing but still lossmaking:

Online tutoring supplies 87% of revenue (₹197 crore). Employee costs account for 49% of expenses at ₹219 crore. The company spent roughly ₹1.96 for every ₹1 of revenue earned in FY25.

There is a genuinely positive signal alongside this: CEO Vamsi Krishna reported that Vedantu turned profitable in Q4 FY25, with collections up 67% to ₹90 crore in the quarter. Read together, the picture is a company that has cut its way toward viability and is growing revenue, but which carried ₹40 crore of cash against a ₹210 crore annual pre-tax loss. For context on the sector’s volatility, Vedantu made around 720 people redundant across two rounds in 2022.

None of this means Vedantu is at risk of disappearing, and Q4 profitability is a real improvement. It does mean that if you are considering a multi-year prepayment, the refund terms above matter more than they would at a company with years of cash in the bank.

Who Vedantu works for — and who it doesn’t

Given how polarised the Vedantu reviews are, this is the section that should decide it for you.

Vedantu is a good fit if

• Your child needs the structure of scheduled live classes and does not self-start with recorded video.
• You want a teacher who can be asked questions mid-lesson, and your child will actually ask them.
• You have reliable broadband — live classes punish unstable connections.
• You are buying for a younger learner, where the strongest and most consistent positive reviews sit.
• You want short-term or one-to-one help and can pay hourly rather than committing to a long course.

Look elsewhere if

• Price is your primary constraint. Vedantu is not positioned as the budget option, and users say so in otherwise positive reviews.
• You need the freedom to exit. Most categories are non-refundable, and the refundable route has demanding attendance conditions.
• Your child learns better at their own pace, rewinding explanations. A recorded-first platform suits that better.
• You want to compare total cost across providers before committing — Vedantu’s gated pricing makes that slow.
• You are easily worn down by sales follow-up. Submitting your number generates persistent contact.

Vedantu vs Physics Wallah vs Unacademy

Vedantu reviews frequently compare it with Physics Wallah and Unacademy, so it is worth being precise. We have deliberately not put competitor fees in a table, because none of the three publishes complete course pricing and inventing comparable figures would be misleading. What can be compared honestly is positioning:

Broad rule of thumb: if cost is the deciding factor for JEE or NEET, Physics Wallah is usually the cheaper route. If you want live teaching with real interaction — especially for school subjects or a younger child — Vedantu is the stronger fit. Get a written total from each before deciding.

Taken together, the Vedantu reviews point the same way: this is a real teaching platform with real teachers, and for the right student it works well — the 79% of reviewers giving it five stars are not imaginary. Our reservations are commercial rather than educational: you cannot see what a course costs before handing over your phone number, most of what you buy cannot be refunded, and the sales follow-up is persistent. Go in with a written quote and written refund terms and it is a reasonable choice. Go in without them and you are relying on goodwill.
